Assignment Set -1 (60 marks)

Note: Assignment Set -1 must be written within 6-8 pages. Answer all questions.

Q1. Quality and reliability are related concepts but are fundamentally different in a number of ways. Discuss them. 10 Marks (350-400 words)

Answer :  The quality movement started in the 1940s with a major contribution on quality aspects from W. Edwards Deming. One of the major benefits of quality has been the saving in the overall cost of production. A system of continuous improvement helps in achieving good quality. Kaizen, refers to a system of continuous process

Q2. Discuss the Objective & Principles Behind Software Testing. 10 Marks (350-400 words)

Answer :  Software testing is an investigation conducted to provide stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service under test.[1] Software testing can also provide an objective, independent view of the software to allow the business to appreciate and understand the risks of software

Q3. Discuss the CMM 5 Levels for Software Process.  10 Marks (350-400 words)

Answer :  Levels of the CMM

Level 1   – Initial

Processes are usually ad hoc and the organizations usually does not provide a stable environment .Success in these organizations depends on the competence  and heroic of the people in the organizations  and not on the use of proven process. Inspire of this ad hoc chaotic environment, maturity level 1 development often produce products and services  that work.

Software project success

Q4. Discuss the Water Fall model for Software Development. 10 Marks (350-400 words)

Answer :  Water fall model:

The simplest software development life cycle model is the waterfall model, which states that the phases are organized in a linear order. A project begins with feasibility analysis. On the successful demonstration of the feasibility analysis, the requirements analysis and project planning begins. The design starts after the requirements analysis is done. And coding begins after the design is done. Once the programming is completed, the code is integrated and testing is done. On successful completion of testing,

Q5. Explain the Advantages of Prototype Model, & Spiral Model in Contrast to Water Fall model. 10 Marks (350-400 words)

Answer :  Advantages of prototyping

1 May provide the proof of concept necessary to attract funding

2 Early visibility of the prototype gives users an idea of what the final system looks like

3 Encourages active participation among users and producer

4 Enables a higher output for user

5 Cost effective (Development

Q6. Explain the COCOMO Model & Software Estimation Technique. 10 Marks (350-400 words)

Answer :  The Constructive Cost Model (COCOMO) is an algorithmic software cost estimation model developed by Barry W. Boehm. The model uses a basic regression formula with parameters that are derived from historical project data and current project characteristics.

COCOMO was first published in Boehm’s 1981 book Software Engineering Economics[1] as a model for estimating effort, cost, and schedule for software projects. It drew on a study of 63 projects at TRWAerospace where Boehm was
