Question. 1.            What is reliability and maintainability? How is it related? Explain.

Answer: Reliability is the probability of a product successfully functioning as expected for a specific duration within a specified environment. Figure 1 shows the four key elements to reliability: function, probability of success, duration and environment. Maintainability is a characteristic of design, assembly and installation that is the probability of restoration to normal operating state of failed equipment or systems within a specific timeframe, using specified repair techniques and procedures.

Quality is meeting the requirement, expectation, and needs of the customer is free from the defects, lacks and substantial variants. There are standards needs to follow to satisfy the customer requirements.

Answer: Total quality management (TQM) is a philosophical framework that involves constant control and improvement of the quality of products, services, and processes. Quality improvement concerns each person engaged into the development and consumption of products and services that a business firm offers.

TQM is premised on four major pillars – management, suppliers, workforce, suppliers, and customers. All these premises take control of supply and demand level, as well as customer satisfaction with products and services. The main task of an organization is either to meet or exceed consumer expectations.

Answer: A quality circle is a participatory management technique that enlists the help of employees in solving problems related to their own jobs.
